Leaving them be is the greatest gift we can give them.
This lion did not deserve to be oppressed, but fortunately, he was rescued in time!
Twenty years of his life have been spent in captivity with this lion named Mufasa. Even though he is a formidable mountain lion, he was forced to make his way through Peruvian cities in a rusty truck called the “road circus.”
“It was heartbreaking to see Mufasa chained among the circus equipment, living on the back of a pickup truck,” said Jan Creamer, the president of Animal Defenders International (ADI).
“A heavy harness and chains were wrapped around his body, and as we cut them away, he stretched, free, for the first time.”
She described the scene as “the most sad, wretched thing that you’ve ever seen,” noting that “it was like he wasn’t even alive.”
Feeling that way is unbearable. When captive animals are confined to one location for the duration of their lives and made to perform tasks they dislike, they experience feelings comparable to those of their human captors.
Just because people find a particular animal “cool” or “interesting” doesn’t imply it should spend its entire life performing for audiences.
As if they were prisoners, many animals are confined to tiny cages; they should be allowed to live in the wild with their families and herds, where they belong.
Despite Mufasa’s doubts, Animal Defenders International saved the mountain lion in 2015. When they went to shut down the circus in Peru where he had been performing, they came across him.
“Mufasa was torn from the wild and has endured the worst possible life,” said Creamer, “His story symbolizes the suffering we have ended.”
“It is magical to see him moving about in and out of the trees in his own piece of protected forest,” Creamer said.
ADI has rescued over a hundred animals, including Mufasa, and will keep fighting to free animals used in illegal circuses.
Seeing Mufasa freed from his chains and reintegrated into nature, where he belonged, was heartwarming. – All creatures should be allowed to live in freedom; we can only hope this day will come soon!

So sad. I use to think Circus people who own wild animals take good care of them as I can see and know now that is not true. Thank you for saving these wild animals and continue on with your good work. Take care and peace be with you
Why now, after 20 years? It will starve not using it’s hunting skills.
