These big cats are popular and known as leopards, but they are extraordinarily rare in recent times due to poachers and loss of habitat. A rare black leopard named Bagheera has gained attention after being caught on camera by a photographer in India.
The melanistic leopard was named Bagheera after the Jungle Book character and was found in a Pench National park known as “Land of the Mowgli”. In August, photographer Haritri Goswami caught this amazing leopard “Bagheera” on camera climbing a tree.
In 2020, another black leopard, comparable to Bagheera, became famous in the same park after being captured on video by a tourist.
According to the Daily Mail, some scientists suggest that the rare fur color may be an evolutionary response to cats hunting at night. This is probably done to avoid the threat of poachers.
Additionally, they point to the sighting of black leopards in Africa and Asia and black tigers in India’s Nandankanan National Park.
