Are you happy at this moment? Perhaps you were happy this morning but now not so much. I know for me, happiness comes and goes according to what is going on in my life. If my daughter does well on her test, I’m happy; if she’s struggling at school I’m not. If my son returns my phone call, I’m happy; if he doesn’t I’m unhappy. And on it goes through my days. It seems that I am always grasping for happiness but unable to hold on to it.
Can we truly have lasting happiness and satisfaction? Or are we doomed to perpetually ride a roller coaster of emotions? What are the root causes of chronic unhappiness? Is there a real cure? Does God even care about our happiness? Does he want us to be happy? What does the scripture say about happiness and satisfaction? What I am offering you through this article is not a quick fix but I hope that some of what I share can open your eyes and lead you down the right path toward lasting happiness and satisfaction.
You and I need something that is more solid and lasting than a good feeling. The Bible says God offers us things that do not change, such as peace and joy and hope and confidence and purpose in our lives. Turn to God today. He is offering you things that are lasting, rock-solid. Always remember, there is hope with God.
First, I’d like to say that you are not alone. The Bible is full of stories of God’s people dealing with sadness and discontentment. I deal with sadness and discontentment. You’re not alone.
Second, I’d like to tell you that it is time to do something about this unhappiness. As Christians, joy is one of the beautiful gifts of our salvation.
“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” (1 Peter 1:8)
Changing the way you see God will change your life, your relationships, and every experience you have. Yes, you will find happiness and even joy when you change the way you see God! But how do you experience God in a different way? How do you revive a stale relationship with Jesus Christ and renew your connection with the Holy Spirit?
Remember that changing the way you see God isn’t just a one-time writing exercise or prayer! It’s an ongoing process that requires you to keep returning Jesus’ gaze—whether he’s hanging on the cross, walking away from an empty tomb, or smiling and beckoning you to come closer.
With His love,
Turn to God today. He is offering you things that are lasting, rock-solid.
Always remember, there is hope with God.
