Grief doesn’t come and go in an orderly, confined timeframe. Just when we think the pangs of anguish have stolen their last breath, another wave sweeps in and we are forced to revisit the memories, the pain, the fear. Sometimes we try to resist the demands of grieving. We long to avoid this fierce, yet holy pilgrimage.
But the bible has more to say about this topic – for example how it is possible to rejoice in the midst of sorrow, and how God will ultimately create a new earth where grief and sorrow will be no more.
What does the Bible say about Grief
(Psalm 34:18)
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
(Revelation 21:4)
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
(2 Corinthians)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
(Psalm 147:3)
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
(Ecclesiastes 3:1-14)
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing

(Psalm 31:9-10)

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.
