It is sometimes a disconcerting truth for many Christians that even though we belong to God through faith in Christ, we still seem to experience the same problems that plagued us before we were saved. We often become discouraged and bogged down in life’s cares.
Do you ever struggle with advice like, “give your worries to God” and feel tempted to do a preteen esque eye roll? Maybe throw in a heavy sigh or scrunched face and shoulder shrug to make your confusion and annoyance fully known? Or maybe you read a verse that sounds more like a command than advice.
You Should Not Worry
Because God cares for you
This is another important reason you should not worry. God is a dependable care Taker! That is why He has asked you not to worry. He can handle your cares – your challenges or troubles. (1 Peter 5:7) says, “Casting the whole of your care all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all on Him for He cares about with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully.
Remember God is Always With You
When you give your worries to God, you aren’t snail-mailing a newsletter overseas, hoping it arrives in a timely manner. This handoff is a loving conversation with your Father.
Remember, God is always with you, an ever-present help in time of trouble (Psalm 46:1). So simply introduce your worries to him and leave them under his care.
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10).
Worrying is a waste of time; it achieves nothing
“Worry is like a rocking chair; it keeps you moving but doesn’t get you anywhere.” That is motion without movement.
By worrying, you cannot change anything. Worry cannot stop what will happen and cannot change what has happened. Jesus’ question captures it well: “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Of course not” (Matthew 6:27 ).
God Will Give You Strength
when we worry, it isn’t because we can’t accept what is happening or coming soon. It is because we fear we don’t have the strength to get through it. But remember, God will give you strength and then bless you with peace! There is no doubting you can give your worries to God.
