What It Means to Seek
This happens through “seeking.” Continual seeking. But what does that mean practically? Both the Old and New Testaments say it is a “setting of the mind and heart” on God. It is the conscious fixing or focusing of our mind’s attention and our heart’s affection on God.
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. (Colossians 3:1–2)
Stay in His Word
I certainly believe in God’s sudden, miraculous interventions. But too often we overlook the simple keys to victory – things like being obedient, staying in the Lord’s presence, and spending time in His Word.
Several years ago, I had a friend who would go to one prophetic conference after another in search of “a word from God.” One day I told him I had an important word from the Lord for him. His eyes lit up. He was excited!
However, he seemed disappointed when I told him the message God had put on my heart for him: The word he needed was THE Word!
Prayer for seeking God
Meditate on the power of Scripture in seeking God
“If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:10-11)
Where do you need the help of Scripture in seeking God
What lie do you believe about the character of God? What thought or perspective is keeping you from pursuing God with all your heart? Scripture is a powerful tool to combat incorrect thinking with God’s truth.
May your heart become soft and open to God’s presence as you open his word. And may you experience the delight that comes from the knowledge of God’s will for you as found in the pages of the Bible.
