Animals can’t speak up. This may be why some domestic and wild animals are treated so poorly. They are sentient beings entitled to the same opportunities as everybody else. Wild creatures should be free, not confined in filthy, cramped cages. The thought of holding them captive is so inhumane and terrible.
An elephant named Sook Chai, who is 73 years old, has had a miserable existence. She was held captive for most of her life and subjected to physical and psychological torture. After being freed, the powerful gigantic animal collapsed from exhaustion.
Over her years in captivity, Chai was passed from owner to owner. She was made to perform everything from tourist hiking to street begging. As she became older, this was a devastating blow to her health. The elephant eventually lost her ability to see and hear.
This is an incredibly moving narrative. No humane treatment so cruel should ever be used on wild animals. Despite potential dangers, they relish their time spent in the woods (and with humans).
Thankfully, Sook Chai was saved by the dedicated staff of Elephant Nature Park in Northern Thailand. After being moved to the haven, she could finally unwind and take it easy.
As the zookeepers examined the elderly elephant later, they discovered several wounds all over its body and head. These prove that she suffered maltreatment at some point in her life. Due to her exhaustion, she stopped eating. The unfortunate animal had no idea it would be saved and given a new lease on life.
The rescuers did everything possible to make the elephant’s journey less stressful. When it’s freezing outside, they keep the truck toasty; when it’s hot, they help cool down the animal.
It appeared to Sook Chai that these folks were genuine and friendly. The elderly elephant cried. The zookeepers witnessed her breaking down in tears. Everyone’s hearts were shattered by the scene, which was both stunning and devastating. The work of animal rescuers is always complex, but it is always worthwhile. These unfortunate beings can finally do what they were designed to do with their lives.
They filmed the emotional exchange and uploaded it to the web. Millions of people all over the world can’t stop talking about it. They felt it down in their souls.
