Divers in Kavieng, Papua New Guinea captured video footage of this jellyfish, which has reportedly only been seen once before.
This amazing video was posted on Scuba Ventures’ Facebook page. “Spotted a new type of jellyfish on a dive today. It has cool markings and is slightly bigger than a soccer ball and they swim quite fast,” the post said, adding that previously, the extremely rare creature had only been spotted once off the coast of Australia.
The first and only scientifically studied specimen was captured on May 2, 1997, off the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef – about 43 kilometers (27 mi) off the north-east Queensland coast. It was found within 5 meters (16 feet).
