An Italian shelter built during the First World War, it is built on a cliff more than two thousand meters above sea level. That is more than eight thousand feet! The only way to get here is through some of the most difficult terrain for hiking and climbing. It is challenging and you definitely have to brave it.
Another peculiarity is that the building is so old that it may collapse at any moment. Especially since its doors are in a dilapidated condition. It is built within the massif, with exterior brick walls and four wooden windows. It has a sloping roof and even shutters on the windows.
But no one yet knows for sure how and why it was built. But it is believed to have been built during World War I by Italian soldiers in harsh winter conditions. For that reason, it is thought to have been built during the White War.
Named for the winter of the time, and during the war between Austria-Hungary and Italy, the animals and their soldiers would carry supplies, including weapons, across the grounds here. That meant they built tunnels, supply lines, and even shelters. This shelter must be a remnant of one of them.
But it is believed that soldiers used rope ladders to reach difficult places and it is a miracle that it has survived to this day. Hence, it is a must-see for history buffs as well as adrenaline junkies, hikers and mountaineers. Because this is one of the hardest spots to get and a spectacular bunker to see!
