There are a number of things that we absolutely need to survive on earth. One of these things is water. While water quenches our physical thirst there is something that we can receive that will satisfy all our thirsts. That is the living water that Jesus offers to all who believe.
To understand what the living water is that Jesus mentions you should understand the role of water in general. If you think about it in a purely physical or human context, water has fantastic benefits for the human body. There are volumes written on the benefit of water

We receive this living water through the Holy Spirit living within us. In Christ we are satisfied and no longer need to want for the things of the world. He is enough for us! The water that He offers will become a spring of water welling up. It is not stagnant water that doesn’t move, but a bubbling spring that is full of life and refreshment. It is water that will never run out or dry up. It is living water that will never come to an end and will be with us for eternity.

*“But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4;14)
*Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.(John 7:37-39)

He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”(Revelation 21:6-8)
*Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations(Revelation 22:1-2)
